Futility of US Sanctions Proved by NAM Summit: Senior Iranian official

A senior foreign minister official said Tehran’s hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit proved the futility of the US unilateral pressures aimed at isolating the Islamic Republic at the international level.“This summit once again confirmed on an international level that unilateral pressures imposed by the US with the aim of isolating the Islamic Republic are futile and that this issue was further substantiated by the presence of two-thirds of the United Nations member states in the NAM summit,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday, IRIB reported.He added that efforts by the Islamic Republic’s enemies to promote Iranophobia in the region and the world had failed even before the summit was held. Amir-Abdollahian noted that Iran is determined to revive the realistic ideals of NAM founders during its presidency and ‘turn NAM into an organization that has plans and suggestions for international and regional crises and issues by establishing an active workgroup for every issue’ to resolve global problems through cooperation and high potentials of its member states.The 16th NAM Summit wrapped up in the Iranian capital on Friday, with the member states passing a final resolution, which included over 700 paragraphs.The final communiqué expressed support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, rejected the United States’ unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, and called for greater support for the Palestinian cause.The need to combat Islamophobia and racism throughout the world and promote global nuclear disarmament were some of the other key issues mentioned in the document.
